Thinning of The Veil

What is the thinning of the veil? When does it occur? How does it affect us?

What Is The Thinning of The Veil? | A Brief History

In various cultures, religions, and timeframes throughout history, many believed that there is a spiritual (energetic) veil which divides the living and spiritual realms. The veil itself cannot be seen by human eyes, because it exists outside of our visual capacity. The visible light spectrum, which humans can see, only makes up 0.0035 percent of the total electromatic spectrum. Thus, the thinning of the veil is not something we witness with our eyes, but we feel it energetically. And, if you are energetically sensitive, you may notice it more so than others.

This metaphysical veil is said to thin as the end of October approaches, ultimately opening the boundary between the realms by October 31st. This day officially marks the end of summer and the harvest season and ushers in colder days when the darkness lingers. This is why Halloween, Samhain, Day of the Dead and other holidays are celebrated during this season. It is believed that at this time of the year, the living and the dead are able to communicate on a broader scale and paranormal activity increases. In ancient times, the veil was believed by the Greeks and Romans to be an actual physical doorway only assessable at this time of year.

Additionally, a veil which divides realms is not only referenced in pagan religions and in mythology, but the Christian and Jewish Bible (Tanakh) also speaks of a spiritual veil. You will find mention in the book of Exodus, "the veil" before the Ark of the Covenant or mercy seat of God, which represented the boundary between earth and heaven.

What Happens When The Veil Thins? | Experiences You May Encounter

As the veil thins out, we are all inadvertently drawn to the "spirit" or energy of the season and we typically focus on death and spooky themes and events. This magnetism has continued for ages, even before the hype of our modern day Halloween. Those who are sensitive may feel anxious, nervous, or like they’re being watched. Some may also receive messages through their dreams or have dreams of loved ones who have passed on. They may receive intuitive downloads or thoughts that randomly pop into their head. Paranormal activity may increase and include ghost sightings or other encounters involving unknown entities or energies. Spiritual and psychic gifts may grow stronger or even reveal themselves for the first time.

What If I Don't Like These Experiences? | Ways to Guard and Protect Your Energy

If you’re feeling uncomfortable with the thinning veil or any experiences you may be encountering there are a few ways that you can take a step back from the energy and protect yourself.

  1. Protection Meditation: Grounding your energy by prayer and meditation is a great way to balance any uncomfortable situations or encounters. Focus on positive thoughts, speak positive affirmations, relax, and breathe.

  2. Protection Visualization: Close your eyes and relax in a space that feels safe to you. Breathe deep, slow breaths in and out and visualize a bubble or barrier that surrounds you. This bubble or barrier acts as an energetic shield. Imagine that this bubble or barrier is there with you until you decide to remove it. Do this as often as you need.

  3. Cleansing Your Home and Space: Sprinkle salt at your entry doorways. Mix up some salt and water in a bottle and spritz it on each door in your home. Burn white sage, Palo Santo, sweet grass, or other incense and herbs in an appropriate holder or container. Carry it through your home and fan the smoke into each corner of every room. While doing this, ask the Divine and angels to bless your home and give thanks for their protection. Once you are finished going through your home, open a window or a door to allow the old energy to escape and new energy to enter. Crystals are also a great way to cleanse and protect. Placing bells on your doors or around your home can be effective as well.

  4. Cleanse Your Energy: Do a smoke smudge on yourself. You can perform this smudge in the same way you would a smoke cleanse through your home. Hold your sage or incense close to your body and fan the smoke all around you from head to toes. While doing this, say a prayer asking for cleansing, protection, and give thanks. You can also take a warm salt bath. These are fantastic for grounding and clearing energy. Add a few drops of essential oils, like lavender to aid in relaxation.

  5. Simply State What You Want: In a respectful and calm manner ask the feeling or entity that you are sensing to give you space. State your boundaries clearly and ask for mutual respect. If you need help, reach out to a spiritual leader, priest, or medium that you trust.

How Do I Utilize This Time and Energy? | Ways to Connect

If you find yourself intrigued by the energy or you would like to connect with the other side during this time here are some great ways to do this.

  1. Connect Through Dreams: Each night while lying in bed, set the intention to connect with your loved one(s) as you are drifting off to sleep. You may also want to use this time to seek advice from a spirit guide or guardian angel. This may take a few attempts, but if the energies are willing to connect and you are open to receive, you may be successful. If it doesn't happen immediately, don't be discouraged. There are many other ways to connect with loved ones and it may happen when you least expect it.

  2. Set Aside A "Sacred" Place: Choose a specific area in your home to place a small table or shelf. Decorate the table with mementos of your loved one such as items or jewelry that belonged to them, ashes, photos, handkerchiefs, etc. Light a candle and burn some incense. Candles act as a beacon of light to guide energies and familiar smells welcome your loved ones in. Having this special space, offers energies a safe space to step forward, if they would like to.

  3. Talk to Your Passed On Loved Ones: Throughout the day, speak to your loved ones. Calling them by name and talking to them as you would if they were still living, often helps bring in communication. You may feel silly doing this, but the more you practice this, you will become more at ease with the process. Remember, sound is energy and vibration. Speaking someone's name attracts their energy and helps you to center your focus on them. You might also share a fond memory of them or ask a question or two. This will help get the "conversation" going.

  4. Look For Signs: Spirits and guides often communicate through symbols, animals, numbers, and other signs. These can appear randomly in your dreams and while you are awake. Be open to and aware of the signs that are sent to you. They are meant to guide you and help you along your journey through life.

  5. Use Tools: Tools like dowsing rods and pendulums will give you yes or no answers to your questions and are very simple to use. Tarot is another great and more advanced form of communication with the Universe and spiritual realm, if you understand the cards and how to interpret them. These three methods are safe to use and are not portals. No entities can come through when utilizing them. Ouija or spirit boards are portals and are NOT recommended for anyone who does not fully understand how to protect themselves from any malevolent entities that might try to pass through or latch on.

Conclusion:

No matter what you believe or what your stance is about the thinning of the veil, the history is rich and the evidence of heightened paranormal activity at this time is obvious. There are various ways to protect your energy and connect depending on how you wish to proceed with this deeply spiritual time of year.
