An Open Letter for Autumn

A personal message this Fall for all who would like to read it...

autumn tree

Dear Friend,

I trust this letter finds you well. As we find ourselves at the midpoint of autumn, I invite you to consider the tree. The tree stands tall, sturdy, and firmly grounded, drawing energy from the very earth it's rooted in and the world around it. It remains unwavering, except for a gentle sway in the breeze, as if in a dance before the sky, sun, moon, and stars. Its beauty is awe-inspiring, and it provides life to everything that surrounds it.

As the temperature drops, and the sun's light begins to soften, the tree acknowledges that it is time to let go. Its flowers and fruits have fully ripened, and the harvest season has arrived. As we revel in their sweet aromas and flavors, the tree takes its rest after much hard work through the spring and summer. Despite the leaves' imminent ending, they display the beauty of transition with their vibrant red, orange, and yellow hues. They gracefully detach from the branches that once provided them life and a safe haven, fall to the earth, and become dust. Their sacrifice offers nutrients to sustain the tree through the winter, so that when spring arrives, the tree blossoms once again.

Autumn serves as a reminder that change is the only constant in life. It is a time for us to reflect on the past year and the growth we have experienced. The tree's cycle of life and death is a beautiful metaphor for our own journey. Just like the tree sheds its leaves, it reminds us that we too must let go of the things that are holding us back and embrace the new opportunities that await us. Letting go allows energy to flow as it should and we are able to transition into our next phase of life.

This autumn, consider letting go of what no longer serves you. It could be clutter in your home, toxic relationships, or harmful habits that are holding you back. Understand that these things consume our energy and hamper our growth. They cause stagnation and give rise to negative thoughts and emotions. The longer we hold on to them, the more they choke the life out of us.

Furthermore, as we move into the winter season, let us take inspiration from the tree. Let us take time to rest, reflect, and recharge. The winter may seem like a time of stillness, but beneath the surface, there is much activity. The tree is using this time to prepare for the new growth that will come in the spring. Let us also take this time to prepare ourselves for the new year ahead and set intentions for the kind of life we want to live and the kind of person we want to be. Let us take action towards those goals, knowing that every step we take brings us closer to our dreams.

Remember, we are all like the tree. We are firmly rooted in the earth, drawing energy from the world around us, and constantly growing and changing. Understand that most of our suffering comes from the reluctance to surrender to the natural flow of life. Let us embrace the beauty of our journey.
